It hasn’t even been a decade since the original production of Ragtime closed on Broadway, and yet the popular history-based musical is already back, in a new staging that opened November 15 at the Neil Simon Theatre. And why not? With unforgettable characters like Coalhouse Walker, a black Jazz pianist who fights for justice, Jewish immigrant Tateh and Mother, the Victorian woman who grows a spine, the musical has always been a favorite of audiences, just as the original E.L.
